Blooming Bunting at The Constant Knitter

Blooming Bunting at The Constant Knitter

The Hanging Gardens of Dublin :  Wed 20 May, 2-5pm

Starting the week, we will have Ashleigh of Blooming Bunting here as part of a creative green community project.  Blooming Bunting want to transform a dreary lane beside Dublin Castle into a dazzling, bunting-filled, imaginative hanging garden.  They need lengths of bunting (approx. 3m or more long).  You can help by joining Ashleigh and Dee Harte, textile designer and sewing tutor here at The Constant Knitter, to make miles of bunting for this community project!  This project forms part of BloomFringe 2015.  Promises to be a fun filled afternoon and you might even learn some basic sewing!  You don’t have to be an experienced sewer to help – just come along!

For more information please go to the Blooming Bunting website!

Machine Knitting – finally!

Machine knitting class

Machine knitting class

I have just attended my first class here at The Constant Knitter (except for a short Pinterest workshop with a friend a few months ago).

My aim was to learn how to cast on, knit and cast off which I did.  We also did another few bits and pieces so I could definitely get a scarf, stole or blanket done, using a few fancy stitches.  Lots of swatches to show for it.

About time too – I’ve had the machines for 15 years!!

The class was facilitated by Liadain Aiken of Liadain Aiken Knitwear.

Schoppel Cashmere Queen

Sunday, January 25th, 2015
Cashmere Queen

Cashmere Queen

Lots of this was bought even while we were unpacking it!

These are the strangest looking balls of yarn ever.  Schoppel Cashmere Queen is made up of a blend of cashmere, silk, and wool combined in a single ply yarn with no twist.  This is due to Schoppel Wolle having a patented technique that just slightly fulls or felts the yarn, creating a single ply, made up of the blended fibres, that resists the normal pilling associated with it.  It also enhances stitch definition.

It blooms when you knit it.  Then when you wash it, it blooms even more making the halo more pronounced.

It comes in some very beautiful colours and, with a very generous 140m in a 50g ball, there is plenty for a super soft hat or pair of mittens.
