At a family wedding in Leeds earlier in the week, I had the opportunity to visit West Yorkshire Spinners who supply me with the most beautiful Blue Face Leicester Wool. There is no visitors centre, the facility was very noisy and I was accompanied by some non-knitters, so it was a quick visit and I didn’t get many photos.
Situated in the original home of the British Worsted Spinning Industry, they combine state of the art technology with generations of expertise hand knitting yarns of exceptional quality. They are one of the few remaining worsted spinning companies left in the UK. To the best of my knowledge, there is no such facility in Ireland.
It was fascinating – the floor was littered with huge bales (?) of wool like the one in the picture.
The second image is of a bale of nylon and a bale of wool being processed together for sockyarn.
